I have not yet regretted the counsel given to me as a 16-year-old when I was told, as a new Christian, to form the habit of daily Bible reading. I don’t consider myself a Bible teacher per se, perhaps fearing I lack the proper credentials, even the calling for such an important task, but I have been reading the Bible (mostly) daily for almost three decades. It’s probably fair to say some things have soaked in. I suppose I can also say, given my longstanding preference for the One Year Bible, that I have a sense of the scope and arc of its story. What is true is that I am a trained reader—and I’ve always hoped to bring those skills into the work that I do.
