I am sending to you—paid subscribers—this end-of-the-month letter just a little bit early, not wishing to crowd your inbox as we celebrate Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday. I pray that this Passion week has you reading the Scriptures slowly, absorbing the good news that God has suffered time and death, healing humanity by his wounds.
If I may, I want to thank you for being willing to financially support my work. According to Substack, A Habit Called Faith is now a “bestseller,” which has to do with the number of paid subscribers. Woot-woot!
To be honest, I have had complicated feelings about asking for the support of paid subscribers, although the community that is forming here is quickly becoming both a vital source of encouragement and accountability. Encouragement: because I trust that this is real writing, real publishing, and even if I never publish another book, I believe I can serve readers here. Accountability: because you have made an investment, and I want you to feel it’s been worthwhile. I’m grateful for the animated conversation that some of my posts have generated this month on Christian publishing (here and here), and I’m also encouraged to see the enthusiastic response to my interview with Lucy S.R. Austen, author of Elisabeth Elliot: A Life. As you have authors you might wish for me to interview or topics you might like for me to write about, please comment below!
