The "knowing" I keep coming back to (after decades of agonizing over every decision as I sought the elusive dot of God's perfect will) is that all my decisions flow from the one all-important decision to seek wholeheartedly after a relationship with God in Christ. With that in place, I can trust him to hold me in goodness and truth.
This post is an answer to prayer from this very weekend, Jen. Thank you for the practical and convicting-with-kindness way you wrote this. Grateful for you!
Such good steps to keep before me as I revisit my own framework for making choices. Recently, in a season of facing treatment for breast cancer, I was considering how to spend the rest of "this one precious life". The Lord brought to mind my desire to run a small bookshop in our hometown. I know that I know my love of books and learning was built into me by my Creator. And, as you've said "God will do what he wants to do, and he will often do it through weak people and what seem to be insufficient resources." Thank you for that affirmation. I can deeply trust him. So I am opening Chapters Bookshop in April.
The comment "the more alternatives one considers, the less satisfied one is about one’s ultimate choice." is definitely true for me as a stage III oral cancer survivor and autoimmune patient in the last 4 years my world and choices have shrunk immensely, perspectives tend to change about our wants and need when our mortality is faced. Yet, my faith has sustained me and surprisingly I am more content and filled with joy now than I was before. God is indeed a god of mystery! Love this post by the way. Thank you.

What a story, Ingrid! Thank you for sharing!
I know that what is happening in your country right now is a travesty.
Another day in the life of salvation history.
As one who can often be paralyzed by option paralysis, this spoke to me. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing, Judy! I'm glad this was helpful!
This was excellent - a lot of wisdom in those brief steps. Thank you.
