Just read this aloud to my three teens and husband as we drive to extended family thanksgiving. “Gratitude is the only proper response to grace.” Thank you for that reminder!
Happy Thanksgiving! I always delight in seeing your Post Script in my inbox on Mondays. Your journey and reflections often seem to parallel the seasons of my life that I'm trying to figure out, and I am grateful for your wisdom to glean from. P.S. I also just finally figured out how to comment on these letters 😅
I just love everything about this! The challenge to respond creates a community for us all...and more friends to pray for!!! Your words encourage us to pause and really acknowledge the work God is doing in our lives and how our prayers need to be focused, attentive, and relational!!! And in all this, God is glorified because we all can share something God is doing around us! Praising God for your good work and for the Kingdom we all get to be a part of!!! So grateful to Him for all He is doing reflected in us! Keep reflecting well!!!
I resonate with so much of this post as I slowly process through a major move and season of waiting I never saw coming. Grief, but also so much gratefulness as God graciously continues to shape and form me.
Thanks for this post Jen. I read the parable of the Sower and the Seed today and had to ask myself the question, "How can I re-order my life to make more space for God's word?" I suspect your book will give me much food for thought in this regard. p.s. As a Canadian, I was saddened that you were moving back to the U.S.......but, I totally understand the need to make adjustments for one's parents. Blessings on your family.
I will be honest and say that I simply don't have time to read all of your Post Scripts but every time I do, I am encouraged. Your story about relocating touched me as I know how deep a loss it is to lose your home and everything that goes with it. I pray that you will continue to see His goodness in the land of the living and find joy as you allow roots to be set down in this new place. He is our ultimate Home, and where He is, we find belonging and peace. May you and your family have a blessed Thanksgiving!
Thank you, Jen, for your wise and well-chosen words. I needed them after a rough-and-tumble day during which, despite the hiccups, I nonetheless had much to thank God for.
I'm new to your work, and it is such a bright spot in my week. "Believers in a good and generous God practice gratitude—but not in this vague way of “counting our blessings.” Instead, we name our gifts as a way of turning our attention to the Giver." Those lines are so good. Thank you for sharing.
I (also!) recently moved to Ohio, and this post encouraged me so much. What a prayer -- that we would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Amen and amen. Thank you for sharing testimonies of God's faithfulness to You, as it reminds me that He is my God as well. <3
Thank you for this post. We will move overseas this summer after 7 years in one place and I would love to see "the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living."

A paradox indeed: grief and gratefulness. God bless!

Preordered your new book but wouldn’t mind winning one for a friend!
Love the driving in the dark example.
That example was one I heard on a podcast recently with Suzanne Stabile (on The Next Right Thing)! I found it so helpful, too!
“Gratitude is the only proper response to grace.” ❤️❤️❤️ that line spoke to me while reading your book and spoke to me again now. Thank you!
Thanks for reading A Habit Called Faith!
