It seems the challenge, like you note, Dorothy, is not just about marketing but about getting people to even want to read at all. The audience is shrinking. Yes, when I read stats about how few book people buy and read (are they factoring in ebooks?), it feels depressing AND explains a lot about where we are as a culture.
